(UPDATE) Kidnapped school official freed in Zambo Sur
MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - A Filipino public school official was set free by his kidnappers after almost seven months in captivity in Zamboanga del Sur, local police told media today.
The victim, identified as Rudy Luna, was freed on Tuesday at a fish port in Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur, public information office of Zamboanga Regional Police Office said.
According to the initial debriefing by the Anti-Kidnapping Group unit of Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Office, the victim boarded a pump boat with two unidentified armed men, while another pump boat with two other armed men escorted them in going to the fish port.
Upon reaching the place, Luna was abandoned by his captors, said police.
It was not immediately known if ransom was paid for the victim' s release.
Luna, who was familiar with the place, proceeded to the house of his brother, a policeman of the provincial police office.
He was later brought to a hospital for medical treatment, police said.
Armed men seized Luna, along with his wife, when they were on their way home from Kumalarang Central Elementary School in late January. But his wife managed to escape the kidnappers.
