(UPDATE) Woman with gun bursts into presidential palace

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - A woman burst into Malacanang compound, the site of the government, with a gun in her hands today, demanding President Benigno Aquino III to step down.

The female intruder, Flora Pineda, was immediately blocked and disarmed by a member of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) on duty after she entered the sentry gate of the New Executive Building at the Malacanang at around 3:40 p.m..

Pineda told reporters that she does not belong to any group and that she got the gun from a Triumph office in Taguig city of Metro Manila.

She said she had no intention of hurting anybody, but wants the President to step down because Filipinos are getting poorer and hungrier under his administration. She showed no remorse when talking to members of the PSG.

PSG Commander Commodore Raul Ubando said no one was hurt in the incident and Pineda was immediately turned over to the Manila Police District for proper investigations.
