Sereno to attend WEF in Dubai

Edu Punay - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno will participate in the annual summit on the global agenda council on transparency and anti-corruption of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in November.

Last Wednesday, the Supreme Court (SC) announced that Sereno has accepted WEF’s nomination to be a “voice on the global agenda council.”

The annual summit, to be held from Nov. 9 to 11, is the world’s largest brainstorming of members of the Network Global Agenda Councils on various issues engaged in interactive workshops and sessions to provide comprehensive insight into the global, industry and regional agendas.

The annual Summit on the Global Agenda gathers globally recognized expert communities “to provide interdisciplinary thinking, stimulate dialogue, shape agendas and catalyze initiatives.”

Through collaboration and debate, as well as findings, the Global Agenda Councils transform implications and recommendations into key deliverables such as the Outlook on the Global Agenda and Global Agenda Survey, as well as council-specific projects and reports.

The network of Global Agenda Councils “is a unique, global community of over 1,500 premier thought leaders who are the foremost experts in their fields of academia, business, government, international organizations and society.”

The councils “are committed to addressing the most pressing issues and opportunities of our time and aim to provide new thinking and solutions.”

At the summit, over 800 members of the network will engage in interactive workshops and sessions to provide comprehensive insight into the global, industry and regional agendas. Recognizing the great transformations that businesses, economies and societies are currently undergoing, participants at this year’s summit will focus on how to transform new models into collaborative, sustained processes, which drive solutions for a greener and socially more inclusive world.

The WEF has chosen Sereno following her keynote speech, “Exacting Public Accountability and the Potential for Economic Growth” before the East Asia Summit of WEF in Manila last May, according to associate director of the Partnering Against Corruption Initiative Gretchen Jonker.

In her speech, Sereno discussed, among others, issues that matter to investors, particularly the stability of the investment policy framework and length of judicial processes.
