DOLE: No work, no pay on Aug. 21

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday the “no work, no pay” rule will be applied on Aug. 21, which was declared a special non-working holiday to commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz issued the pay rule to guide employers and workers.

“The no work, no pay principle shall apply on Thursday unless there is a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day,” Baldoz said.

She said an additional 30 percent on top of the regular salary will be given to those who will report for work on that day, while an additional 30 percent will be given to those working overtime.

Workers whose rest day falls on the special non-working holiday will be paid an additional 50 percent of their regular salary.

Baldoz urged employers to comply with the holiday pay rules to promote productivity and good business practice.

Meanwhile, workers in Quezon City, Quezon and Aurora provinces are entitled to holiday pay if they report for work today.

DOLE said Aug. 19 is a special non-working day in Quezon City, Quezon and Aurora provinces to mark Manuel Quezon’s birth anniversary.
