Thailand extends more donation to typhoon-hit Phl areas

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Thailand has extended additional aid for areas stricken by devastating Typhoon Haiyan in central Philippines last November, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said today.

Thailand Ambassador to the Philippines Prasas Prasasvinitchai presented a check for 622,243.39 U.S. dollars to Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario as additional donation from the government and people of Thailand, the department said.

Del Rosario thanked the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand for their donation and said that Thailand's assistance would help the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the disaster-stricken areas.

The amount was raised through a nationwide telethon in November 2013 in Thailand led by former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, the DFA said.

Haiyan left at least 6,200 people dead, over 1,700 others missing and millions of families homeless.
