MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III will lead today the 150th birth anniversary celebration of revolutionary hero Apolinario Mabini.
Aquino will travel to Mabini's hometown of Tanauan, Batangas where he is expected to deliver a speech.
Malacañang said the the celebration of Mabini's birth anniversary will include the reopening of the Mabini Shrine, where the hero's remains lie, and the unveiling of a new museum on his life and works and the Philippine-American War.
Known as the "Brains of the Revolution," Mabini campaigned for Philippine independence from Spain and the United States and served as the country's foremost statesman during the First Philippine Republic.
The Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office described Mabini as a "brilliant legal luminary" and the "first modern Filipino."
