No Pinoy casualty in Japan typhoon

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - No Filipino casualties were reported when Typhoon Neoguri hit Japan, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday.

Spokesman Charles Jose said the Philippine embassy in Tokyo and the consulate general in Osaka are closely monitoring the weather situation and Filipinos who might have been affected by the typhoon.

“As of this moment, Okinawa is under emergency weather warning,” he said. “No reported Filipino casualties.”

“No rains in Ginowan City, just wind and there were no requests for assistance,” Jose said, quoting the honorary consul general’s office.

On Tuesday, the Philippine embassy asked Filipinos in Japan, especially those living in the direct path of Neoguri, to take precautions and keep in mind the advisory of the Japanese government to minimize the effect the typhoon may cause.

About 1,600 Filipinos are living in Okinawa, the DFA said.
