(UPDATE) Military captures Abu Sayyaf camp in Sulu
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Xinhua) - A main camp of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf in the southern province of Sulu was overrun by government troops, a military official said today.
Captain Rowena Muyuela, spokesman of the Western Mindanao Command, said the firefight between the Philippine Marines and the Abu Sayyaf in Patikul town on Monday resulted in an undetermined number of casualties on the terrorist group's side.
Muyuela said two Marines were wounded following the encounter. She said the military is verifying reports that a Abu Sayyaf leader, Radulan Sahiron, was also among the casualties.
The encounter was the second in the area in nearly three weeks.
Seven soldiers and 19 Abu Sayyaf members were killed following the clash between government troops and the terrorist group on June 19.
