MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno S. Aquino III is hopeful that the celebration of the holy month of Ramadhan will strengthen the Muslims’ resolve to contribute for the good of the country.
In his message for the start of Ramadhan, Aquino said the fasting month is an opportunity for Muslims to reinforce their self-discipline, compassion and self control, values that are vital to the development of each individual.
“May this event strengthen your faith and inspire you to deepen your commitment to fulfilling our shared vision of lasting, equitable progress,” Aquino said in a statement issued by Malacañang on Saturday.
“May the blessed teachings of the Holy Qur’an guide you in this time of fasting and prayer, and allow you to contribute more passionately towards building a better future for our countrymen," he added.
Aquino claimed that the Philippines “continues to grow more robust” amid diversity, which he described as “a source of strength.”
“Our solidarity enables us to learn from each other and create a more unified and harmonious nation where citizens of various beliefs and creeds can work together to uphold peace and harmony,” the president said.
Muslims consider Ramadan as the holiest month as it commemorates the revelation of the Holy Qur’an to Prophet Mohammad. Muslims all over the world commemorate the ninth month of the Islamic calendar by fasting.
This year, the Muslim holy month will start dawn of Sunday.
