MANILA, Philippines — Two weeks after his Independence Day speech was interrupted by protesters, President Benigno Aquino III was again heckled by activists on Friday.
The incident happened while the President was delivering a speech in Iloilo for the inauguration and inspection of national infrastructure projects in the province.
In his speech, he was thanking the people of Iloilo for supporting him and Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas during the 2010 elections.
The activists then exclaimed Aquino's name and their protest, getting the attention of the President, the officials on stage and the audience.
But Aquino simply played it cool and said "Maraming salamat po sa kanila," drawing applause and cheers from the audience.
Another live television footage of Aquino's speech showed authorities trying to contain the activists.
During the Independence Day celebrations in Naga City, psychology student Emmanuel Mijares was arrested after he interrupted Aquino's speech.
Mijares was charged with disturbing public order under Article 153 of the Revised Penal Code.
