Osmak submits Napoles's progress report to court

MANILA, Philippines - The Ospital ng Makati (Osmak) on Thursday submitted its three-page progress report detailing the condition of businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles from May 26 until last Wednesday night.

The report prepared by Dr. Florentina Villanueva, chairperson of the Osmak's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and signed by Osmak medical director Dr. Perry Peralta said members of the medical team, including Napoles's attending doctors- Dr. Elsie Pascua and Dr. Efren Domingo- are confident that the "bleeding will not recur if the patient complies with the prescribed treatment regimen including complete bed rest and a stress-free environment."

On Wednesday, the report said Villanueva did her rounds at about 4 p.m. together with obstetrics senior resident Dr. Katleen del Prado and nurse Ma. Laurice Grace Bien.

According to the report, Dr. Villanueva noted that Napoles was lying in bed and was reading a newspaper. She described Napoles as being in a "sad mood" and was crying.

Villanueva quoted Napoles as saying that "Nobody wanted to believe her, that everyone was making fun of her and making her life a circus."

Villanueva, the report said, then asked to see Napoles's pad again. Napoles then said, "konti na lang ang bleeding" but refused to show her pad.

Napoles, the report said, told Villanueva that she wanted to take a bath but Villanueva only allowed the nurse to give her a sponge bath. After the sponge bath, the report said, Napoles closed her eyes and went to sleep.

Villanueva, said the report, then spoke with Napoles's brother and explained that the bleeding is now minimal and is acceptable in post-operative cases like that of Napoles's. Villanueva told Napoles's brother that there is a big possibility that the businesswoman will be discharged soon.

The report said Napoles's attending doctors were then informed by Osmak by phone. Doctors Pascua and Domingo then instructed Villanueva to order Napoles's discharge in the chart. Villanueva ordered her discharge at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The report said Napoles was then informed of her discharge and at 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, doctors Pascua and Domingo saw her and signed the discharge orders written by Villanueva.

The report also said that aside from the discharge orders, Villanueva also issued aftercare instructions for Napoles.

Villanueva ordered that a nurse must also be present at all times with Napoles to monitor her medications, blood sugar level, vital signs and vaginal bleeding.

Villanueva also ordered that Napoles must be "stress-free" and that she must not lift anything heavier than five kilograms.

"She must be kept in bed most of the time with toilet privileges for at least one month. There must also be a physiician who can assess her immediately if needed and transportation to bring her to the nearest hospital with an OB-GYN specialist. A follow-up is recommended as prescribed by her attending physicians," the medical report said. (with a report from Kim Nuñez)
