Sibling rivalry: Senate SALNs show gaps in net worth

Christina Mendez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Pia Cayetano are richer than their siblings Senators JV Ejercito and Alan Peter Cayetano, according to 2013 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) documents at the Office of the Senate Secretary.

Estrada has a total net worth of P195,072,927, about P122 million more than Ejercito’s net worth of P73.99 million.

Estrada’s real properties are worth P66 million and personal properties P150 million, with liabilities of P21 million.

Ejercito has P89.5 million in real properties and P58 million in personal properties, or a total of P148.1 million in assets.

His liabilities were P74.1 million, listed as advances and loan payables to Banco de Oro and Wachovia Mortgage.

Estrada has investments of P11.3 million. He listed business interests in S-E-N-J-I Corp., Lucky J4J Resto, Inc., Hk Chois Inc, Choi Palace, Quick Choi and Jelp Real Estate Development Corp., incorporated from 1998 to 2010.

Estrada’s real properties include five condominium units, two lots in Quezon City, a town house, a house and an agricultural lot in Lipa City.

Ejercito has financial interests in 22 companies involved in management consultancy, machinery maintenance, real estate, restaurants, trading and lending, as well as construction where he and his wife, Maria Hyacinth, are stockholders.

Ejercito said he remains “active“ in nine out of 22 firms.

Pia reported a total net worth of P73.296 million in 2013, while Alan had total net worth at P21.79-million.

Pia listed 20 firms where she is either a stockholder or an incorporator. She has invested about P15.2 million in investment stocks/shares.

Pia listed no house nor any other real property under her name, but her personal properties reached P77.835 million, including cash on hand/bank, jewelries/books/appliances/fixtures; receivables/other investments/investments stocks and vehicles.

Her liabilities amounted to P4.5 million.

Alan has P1.4 million in real properties and P25.4 million in personal assets. His liabilities include a P3.5 million “parental loan” and P1.532 million in housing loan, for a total of P5.032million.

Alan listed nine firms where he has business or financial connections, and a land realty and development corporation where his wife, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano, is a stockholder.

Speaking at the weekly Kapihan sa Senado yesterday, Ejercito said he is not bothered that a big gap exists between his net worth and that of Estrada.

“Senator Jinggoy is seven years older than me, and he started his career earlier,” he said. “He has business and he is showbiz, so he had seven years head start to save for his family.”

Meanwhile, Sen. Sergio Osmeña III’s total net worth is P114.37 million, not P 38.77 million as earlier reported, his office said yesterday.

Osmeña’s real estate properties amounted to P38.77 million, while his personal properties amount to P79.2 million. His total assets were P114.37 million and his liabilities were placed at P3.6 million.

At the House of Representatives, the summary of the 2013 SALN of members will be released next week. Some lawmakers, though, chose to bare their individual SALNs to the public.

Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. said the House staff was still collating the SALNs that the lawmakers had submitted.
