LOOK: Obama inside Manila e-jeepney
MANILA, Philippines — Before he left the country on Tuesday, United States President Barack Obama got a glimpse of the future of the Philippine jeepney.
Obama's first activity during his second day here was the viewing of the City Optimized Managed Electric Transport (Comet) at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel.
Designed by the Global Electric Transport (GET) Ltd., the electric, zero-emission vehicle is being considered as a replacement for Metro Manila's famous and iconic public jeepneys.
During the viewing of the Comet, Obama was able to meet with Ken Montler and Freddie Tinga, GET chief executive officer and president, respectively. He also talked to Robert Martin, national president of Pasang Masda, an association of jeepney drivers.
Launched in September 2013, the Comet's initial routes will ply from SM North EDSA to SM Megamall.
