MANILA, Philippines - Rear Adm. Jesus Millan is the new Navy chief.
He replaces Vice Adm. Jose Luis Alano. Turnover ceremonies will be held today at the Heracleo Alano Naval Base at Sangley Point in Cavite City.
The Zamboanga City-based Millan belongs to Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1982.
He is a recipient of various military awards, including the Distinguished Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Star and Bronze Cross.
A contender for the top Navy post was Alano’s younger brother, Rear Adm. Leopoldo Alano, Naval Sea Systems Training Center commander.
Armed Forces public affairs chief Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said: “The Armed Forces of the Philippines welcomes the appointment of Rear Adm. Jesus Millan as the Philippine Navy’s Flag-Officer-in- Command. He is a professional Navy officer who has served the AFP in different administrative and operational capacities.â€
Millan’s replacement as Naval Forces Western Mindanao (Navforwestmin) commander has yet to be announced, according to Navy spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Gregory Fabic.
