Low-pressure area spotted off Pacific Ocean enters Phl
MANILA, Philippines - A low-pressure area off the Pacific Ocean entered the Philippine area of responsibility yesterday but is not expected to affect any part of the country in the next two to three days, the state weather bureau said.
Jun Galang, weather forecaster at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said the low-pressure area was spotted at 830 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar as of 4 p.m. yesterday.
He said the weather system has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone based on latest forecast, but PAGASA is not discounting the possibility that it will develop into a cyclone as it remains over the sea.
The low-pressure area will be named Ester once it intensifies into a cyclone.
Galang said if the low-pressure area moves closer to the country, it will bring rains over the regions of Eastern Visayas and Bicol and in the provinces of Aurora and Quezon later this week.
The other low-pressure area spotted by PAGASA off Guiuan dissipated last Sunday.
