Napoles surgery set Tuesday night
MANILA, Philippines - The surgery of businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles to remove a myoma in her uterus has been scheduled for Tuesday at the Ospital ng Makati (Osmak), her lawyer Fay Isaguirre-Singson confirmed.
Singson said the surgery will be done at night.
Last April 8, Napoles underwent an endometrial biopsy to determine the extent of the actual surgery to be done on Napoles to remove the myoma.
"The first procedure is actually the prelude of another procedure or surgery. Because ang findings nung first procedure that we will do, will dictate kung ano yung klase o extent ng procedure na gagawin namin. It will depend on the biopsy. Biopsy will dictate kung ano yung gagawin natin," Dr. Perry Peralta, Osmak medical director earlier said.
Napoles has been confined at the Osmak after the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 had allowed the surgery to remove the myoma from her uterus.
Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 Judge Elmo Alameda also earlier issued an order authorizing Napoles' own choice of doctors to participate in her treatment.
It would be recalled that the Makati court granted Napoles' motion to undergo surgery and be confined, but not at St. Luke's Medical Center, the hospital of her choice. Instead, the court chose OsMak, a public tertiary hospital within the court's jurisdiction.
Peralta said the Osmak team that will particpate in Napoles' surgery will be composed of a cardiologist, an endocrinologist, an anesthesiologist, a gynecologist-oncologist and a pathologist.
Peralta added that Napoles will shoulder the fees of her private doctors as her request to have them treat her “will incur additional charges."
Peralta added that Osmak is well-equipped to handle Napoles' treatment.
"The treatment required for Mrs. Napoles is not special and the Ospitalng Makati can do it we have to take it into the consideration the welfare of the patient regardless whether Napoles is the patient or not and regardless we acted on her request," he said.
