Probe on Italian envoy set tomorrow
MANILA, Philippines - The Biñan City Prosecutor’s Office set the preliminary investigation on the child trafficking case filed against an Italian diplomat tomorrow.
Italian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Daniel Bosio, 46, was arrested on April 5 for alleged trafficking and abuse of three boys, whom he had brought from Manila to a resort in Laguna.
City police chief Superintendent Noel Aliño said the preliminary investigation at the sala of Prosecutor Agripino Baybay will start at 10 a.m.
He said the three boys aged 12, 10 and 9 were rescued by police officers at the Splash Island Resort. They are now under the custody of the local social welfare department.
Reports said Bosio was on holiday in the Philippines.
Police said the Italian envoy was arrested based on the complaint of Lily Flordelis and Catherine Scerri, officials of Bahay Tuluyan Foundation, who were alarmed when they saw him allegedly sexually abusing the children in the swimming pool. Bahay Tuluyan is a non-government organization protecting the rights of children.
Police said Bosio is being treated as a regular inmate.
