Bulletin's 'Don' Emilio Yap passes away

MANILA, Philippines — Emilio Yap, banking tycoon and chairman of Manila Bulletin, passed away Monday. He was 88.

Details of his internment have not yet been released.

Yap, a Chinese-Filipino businessman, was the chairman emeritus of Philtrust Bank. He also served as chairman of Manila Hotel since 1997, Centro Escolar University since 2002, Liwayway Publishing, Inc., Philippine President Lines and USA Autoco, Inc.

Yap was known as an active philanthropist who would celebrate his birthday by donating to various causes each year.

He was conferred at least four honorary doctorate degrees by top Philippine universities.
