Karapatan urges release of Ka Roger's pregnant daughter
MANILA, Philippines - Rights group Karapatan on Friday called on the government for the immediate release of the daughter of the late Communist Party of the Philippines spokesperson Roger Rosal from detention.
Karapatan secretary Cristina Palabay said nine-month pregnant Andrea Rosal should get the necessary medical attention due to her condition.
Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation arrested Andrea, her companion Rafael de Guzman, and barangay captain Ruben Gatchalian inside the barangay official's house at BF Homes, Brgy. 169, Caloocan City Thursday morning.
Gatchalian is also a member of people's organization, Anakpawis partylist.
"We demand that the NBI and all security forces involved in this highly questionable operation respect the rights of Rosal, Gatchalian , and Rosal's companion to access to counsel, their relatives and human rights organizations," Palabay said.
She said Karapatan paralegal officers initially were not allowed to talk to the three when they arrived at the NBI main office in Manila on Thursday afternoon.
They were however were allowed entry with a lawyer for less than an hour that night, Palabay said.
She said that Andrea was charged with murder and kidnapping cases.
"Mana mana na lang ba ang mga kaso ngayon?" Palabay said.
