Gov’t resumes OFW deployment to Thailand

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The government will resume deployment of Filipino workers to Thailand with the lowering of the crisis alert level there, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) would issue a resolution lifting the deployment ban to Thailand.

“The ban will be lifted soon so both returning and new hires can work in Thailand,” Baldoz said.

The government stopped in January the deployment of newly-hired overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Thailand due to escalating hostilities in the neighboring Asian country.

The DFA earlier raised the Crisis Alert Level from 1 to 2 in Bangkok, Nonthaburi province, Lad Lum Kaew district (Pathumthani province), and Bang Phli district (Samutprakan province) after the Thai government declared a 60-day state of emergency amid the increasing violence brought by anti-government protests.

Under Crisis Alert Level 2, only the processing and deployment of returning OFWs with existing employment contracts will be allowed.
