Cudia planning career outside military, pleads before SC
MANILA, Philippines — Dismissed Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Cadet 1st Class Jeff Aldrin Cudia no longer wants to pursue a career in the military and wishes to move on with his studies, his father said Tuesday.
"Ang layunin po ng aming pagsasampa ay upang malinis ang aming pangalan, makuha ang diploma upang makapagpatuloy sa pag-aaral ang aming anak," Renato Cudia said in an interview with ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda.
On Tuesday, Public Attorney's Office chief Persida Acosta filed a petition before the Supreme Court asking the PMA to release the cadet's diploma and the declaration of an "honorable dismissal."
Cudia is currently on indefinite leave after he was dismissed by the PMA board for violating the Honor Code after he allegedly lied to his professor. Acosta said the PMA Honor Committee did not allow "due process" in dismissing the cadet and insisted that the decision was rigged.
"Dapat pinatutupad ang Honor Code na may hustisya," Acosta said.
Cudia was not included in the March 16 graduation rites, where he was supposed to be honored salutatorian.
The elder Cudia said, meanwhile, that his son now wants to pursue a course related to his navy track in the academy.
"Ang sabi lang n'ya parang gusto rin po n'ya, nalalandas rin sa kanyang pinag-aralan, sa maritime po rin ang gusto n'ya," he said.
Renato also said that the young man is trying to accept his fate as the family awaits President Benigno Aquino III's decision on the case.
"Sa ngayon at least nakakapag-adjust na rin siya unti-unti doon sa nangyari sa kanya, bagamat may lamat sa kanyang puso at isipan ang bagay na 'yon," Cudia's father said.
He also explained that they are filing another petition before the high court as they have not yet heard from the Office of the President.
"Pinapaghintay kami ng isang linggo, pero dumating na po ang takdang oras na hiningi n'ya sa'min at wala po kaming na-receive na sulat na may pasabi. Kaya muling kumakatok kami sa Supreme Court," Renato said.
The Supreme Court recently rejected the family's call to issue a halt order against the PMA decision that would hopefully allow the cadet to graduate.
