MANILA, Philippines - The “rock star†Pope is now on the Philippine Postal Corp. (PhlPost)’s stamp.
Beginning today, PhlPost will release copies of the 30 x 40-millimeter Pope Francis stamp which would be sold for P40 each.
Seen in the stamp is the image of a smiling, waving Pope Francis.
Below his image is the word “Pilipinas.â€
The Pope Francis stamp, printed by local printer Amstar Company, Inc., would be made available until March next year, or as long as supplies last.
A total of 90,000 copies of the stamp have been produced.
‘Person of the Year’
Pope Francis, who has gained worldwide admiration for stressing the healing mission of the church, has been named as Time Magazine’s Person of the Year.
He has also graced the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
The 2014 Pope Francis stamp is a joint issue between the Philippines and the Vatican City State as both agreed to feature the incumbent head of the Catholic church.
Since it is a joint issue, the Vatican postal administration also produced a similarly designed stamp to be released today.
Postmaster General Josefina de la Cruz said they are trying to get an audience with Pope Francis to personally present to him samples of the stamp.
She added that their trip to Rome is in line with PhlPost’s scheduled corridor marketing campaign this April.
