KUALA LUMPUR – A maltreated Filipina domestic worker in Malaysia has received help from the Philippine embassy.
The 29-year-old, identified as Ina Francisco, accused her employers of placing a hot iron on her back and arms, and forcing her to swallow a brush used in cleaning toilets.
“I didn’t want to charge my boss, but the Malaysian police and the Philippine embassy pushed me to pursue the case,†she said in Filipino.
Francisco arrived in Malaysia in 2012 and worked with her employer for a year and a half.
She is now awaiting the verdict, which the Malaysian court is expected to hand down on March 17.
The Malaysian couple whom she accused of maltreatment is in jail after the court refused them bail.
Meanwhile, President Aquino was asked yesterday to immediately deal with the plight of illegally deployed OFWs facing arrest and imprisonment in Malaysia.
Garry Martinez, Migrante International chairman, said the government has not set up mechanisms to locate and rescue undocumented OFWs more than a month after the Malaysian government launched a crackdown against illegal migrants.
“President Aquino should urgently look into this matter during his state visit,†he said. – Delon Porcalla, Mayen Jaymalin
