Use of PCOS machines in Bangsamoro plebiscite sought
DAVAO CITY , Philippines – Local officials in North Cotabato are asking the government to use the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines in the plebiscite on the ratification of the Bangsamoro Basic Law to prevent cheating and speed up the voting.
“PCOS should be used so that the plebiscite will be faster and there will be no cheating in the results,†North Cotabato board member Dulia Sultan said in Filipino.
The government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front recently agreed on the fourth annex on Normalization of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro, paving the way for the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement and eventually for Congress to pass the Bangsamoro Basic Law.
There are at least 39 barangays in six towns in North Cotabato that have been identified in the core territory of the Bangsamoro, including the municipalities of Pikit, Kabacan, Carmen, Aleosan, Pigkawayan and Midsayap.
Sultan was among the local officials who attended the first in a series of consultations on the law by the government peace panel led by chief negotiator Miriam Coronel-Ferrer recently in Kidapawan, North Cotabato.
North Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza said the provincial government is now consolidating the issues and other concerns of local officials on the proposed law.
She also said that in spite of the questions and issues raised by local officials, they are still committed to support the peace process.
