The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) saved a total of P19 billion from July 2010 to November 2013 through bidding, President Benigno Aquino III said on Wednesday.

Aquino said the agency is slowly breaking away from its reputation of being one of the most corrupt departments, and commended DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson for rendering public service to the nation.

Singson was among the recipients of the 2014 The Outstanding Filipino award given on Wednesday which Aquino attended.

The P19 billion worth of funds saved by DPWH is equivalent to 23,750 classrooms, the president said.
