Feast of 3 Kings marks end of holiday season

MANILA, Philippines - Today’s celebration of the Feast of the Epiphany marks the time when Jesus Christ revealed his great love and compassion.

As the Roman Catholic Church observes the Feast of the Epiphany, the Filipino faithful should remember this day when the savior Jesus Christ revealed his greatness to the world, Catholic Media Network  head Fr. Francis Lucas said.

It is on this day when a bright star guided the three wise men to Jesus Christ, who was born not in a castle but in a manger.

Before the arrival of the three wise men, only the shepherds came to see the savior. During that time, shepherds were considered the lowest social class.

“But now that his presence has been exposed and even the wise men who came from far off lands recognize him and pay him tribute, that was the time that his (greatness) was manifested,” Lucas said.

But unlike the kings of old who became great for executing people or for their vast wealth, Jesus Christ was great because of his mercy, love and compassion for the people.

He explained that even during the present times, Filipino Catholics recognize Christ’s greatness. “There are many times today when Christ manifests his power, such as through healing and miracles. The Philippines has been saved and we have to be thankful for that.”
