13,028 pass UPCAT

MANILA, Philippines - The University of the Philippines (UP) has given a Christmas gift to more than 13,000 fourth year high school students after it released yesterday the results of the UP college admission test (UPCAT), two months earlier than usual.

According to UP’s official media accounts, 13,028 students out of more than 80,000 hopefuls passed the admission test administered last Aug. 3 and 4 in more than 80 testing centers nationwide.

The list includes those who have pending cases, wait-listed to a degree program with an available slot, and those who are qualified but have to clear deficiencies before the UP Office of Admissions (UPOA).

The number of successful examinees this year is higher than last year’s more than 12,800 students out of 74,000 hopefuls.

“Congratulations to the new batch of mga iskolar ng bayan (nation’s scholars)!” the university said in announcing the release of UPCAT results in its official social media accounts.

The announcement came as a surprise as the results are often released in the last week of February.

A physical copy of the results is posted at the UPOA office. Examinees will also receive official notification by mail.
