LINGAYEN, Pangasinan , Philippines – The president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Monday urged Pangasinenses to always practice the 3Ls in their lives: listening, loving and letting go.
In an anticipated mass at the Sison Auditorium here, Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas said the language of God is silence and only those who know how to keep quiet will be able to hear His word.
“Why is it important to listen during Christmas? Because Christmas is a season of love and how you show it is by listening,†he said.
Meanwhile, Villegas said love should be given without expecting anything in return.
He said the practice of exchanging gifts is un-Christian.
Villegas cited the case of God who gave to the people His only son without expecting anything in return.
He also called on parishioners to let go of everything.
“Release everything that is ugly about you. Release your attachments, just let go,†he said. “It is only in letting go that we will achieve a full, free life. Letting go is a sure way to happiness because people who cling will never find peace.â€
Villegas said there is nothing that people have on earth that they could bring to the other life.
“You can only bring to heaven what you have given away,†he said.
