DOLE to hold job fair for 'Yolanda' victims

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hold a job fair and relief operations in typhoon-struck area Ormoc City next month, an official said on Thursday.

DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said  4,000 jobs will be available to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda that hit Visayas on November 8 and killed over 5,000 people.

"Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has reported to me that the plans  for the job fair and relief mission for the victims of typhoon Yolanda in Eastern Visayas are in the finishing (stages). Initially, 30 licensed overseas recruitment companies have lined up 4,000 job vacancies. There will be private sector employers, too," said Baldoz.

The official added that the program will also take place in other devastated areas like Eastern and Western Samar and other affected parts of Central and Western Visayas.

“The idea is to attain long-term job stability for the displaced workers to ensure their steady rehabilitation and recovery," Baldoz said.

The first major DOLE job fair and relief mission after the typhoon will be held at the Ormoc City Hall on December 13 and 14. The relief mission will be on the first day and the job fair in the following day.

Baldoz said that applicants who will troop to the job fair will not be charged with any placement fee.

The official added that she ordered the POEA and the BLE to conduct a pre-registration of participants in the job fair and to provide them with pre-employment services.
