Dengue alert up in Tacloban

Jovan Cerda - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A dengue alert has been raised in typhoon-ravaged Tacloban, a city councilor reported on Tuesday.

Councilor Jerry Uy said a dengue alert has been raised in the area as stagnant flood waters remain in many parts of the city.

“Still tons of debris remained uncollected despite the clean up being made by the MMDA (Manila Metropolitan Development Authority) in Tacloban,” he said.

The MMDA sent last Nov. 8 a team to Tacloban, one of the hardest hit by typhoon Yolanda, to help in clearing massive piles of debris blocking the roads in the city.

Uy said there is an urgent need to clean the surroundings to prevent a dengue outbreak in the city.

He added that a massive information drive is needed to inform the people.
