Veritas to hold mass for June Keithley

MANILA, Philippines - Radio Veritas will hold a  12:15 p.m. mass for June Keithley-Castro at their studio tomorrow.

Castro, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, passed away at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City last Sunday. She was 66.

Radio Veritas executive director Fr. Anton Pascual yesterday also asked the public to pray for the former broadcaster, who he described as “a good soul.”

“She left us to be in the bosom of God’s perfect care and eternal peace. Let’s pray for June Keithley, whose passion for the Filipino and love for country especially during the EDSA revolution will forever ignite us to take up the torch for truth and justice,” he said.

Pascual said during that historic moment, Castro “kept the candle of truth burning to inspire so many Filipinos longing for freedom from bondage and oppression to go out of the streets and define the destiny of this country forever.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday said Castro’s death is a great loss to the country.
“Another icon of our nation’s democracy has passed on,” Binay said.  – With Jose Rodel Clapano
