Damayan donations climb to P7.3 M
MANILA, Philippines - There is seemingly no end in sight to the kindness and charity that a typhoon of Yolanda’s magnitude has unleashed on our country in hopes that the assistance extended will help victims rebuild their lives and soon forget the nightmare.
Yesterday, even as its volunteers proceeded to disaster-stricken areas to lead relief operations, The Philippine STAR’s social arm, Operation Damayan, tallied new donations totaling P706,500. The new cash donations raised the total Damayan fund for typhoon victims to P7.3 million.
According to STAR president and CEO Miguel Belmonte, who heads Operation Damayan and thus continues the advocacy of STAR founding chairman Betty Go Belmonte, Damayan will not only conduct relief operations but will also actively participate in sustained efforts to assist typhoon-devastated areas with the help of The STAR’s kindhearted benefactors.
Heading the list of yesterday’s donors was the O.B. Montessori Center family, which contributed P.5 million.
