Pinay on Kuwait death row seeks help
MANILA, Philippines - A Filipina household worker sentenced to death by Kuwait’s Court of Cassation (Supreme Court) appealed yesterday for help.
Jakatia Pawa and her brother Air Force Lt. Col. Angaris Pawa appealed to President Aquino to help them in seeking forgiveness from the family of the victim.
Jakatia, of Zamboanga del Norte, fears that she might be executed anytime.
The Court of Cassation confirmed her death sentence almost four years ago, but no help has come her way, she said.
Kuwait’s criminal court sentenced to death Pawa for allegedly stabbing to death her employer’s 22-year-old daughter while she was asleep on May 14, 2007.
An Egyptian forensic expert who investigated the case said Pawa does not have any fingerprint in the crime scene and that the bloodstains found did not match with that of Pawa.
The Court of Cassation upheld the death verdict handed down by the Court of First Instance on April 13, 2008, despite the absence of strong evidence to prove that Pawa killed the victim.
