NDRRMC alerts all units nationwide

MANILA, Philippines - The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) alerted all its regional units as super typhoon "Yolanda" made entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) shortly before midnight on Wednesday.

"You are hereby directed to monitor the situation and undertake precautionary measures in your areas of responsibility," the agency said in its directive issued at 11 p.m. On Wednesday.

The NDRRMC ordered its regional units to keep its communication lines open and disseminate the information to the provincial down to the barangay level through the local media and community leaders.

'Let us untiringly aim for zero casualties," it added.

As of midnight, the eye of the super typhoon was located 943 kilometers easy of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour anf gusts of up to 230 kph. It was moving west northwest at a speed of 30 kph.

The super typhoon may make landfall by Friday.
