Comelec allows Bohol barangay bets to distribute relief goods

MANILA, Philippines - Candidates in the barangay elections in Bohol are now allowed to distribute relief goods.

Chairman Sixto Brillantes said the Commission on Elections (Comelec) made the turnaround upon the request of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“So the compromise is if the (DILG) wants the incumbent barangay officials to supervise and manage the distribution of relief goods, they should also allow the opponents so they can all come up the stage and campaign at the same time,” he said.

Brillantes said the Comelec will be issuing a clarificatory resolution this week allowing unified distribution of donated relief goods, he added.

In the resolution, the Comelec will clarify that the Red Cross will take over in the distribution of relief goods, he added.
