Brillantes: Voting ends at 3 p.m.; expect no extension
MANILA, Philippines - Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. reminded the voting public that this year's barangay polls will close on Monday afternoon with no expected extension.
Brillantes said in his Twitter account that voting ends at 3 p.m. today and not at 5 p.m.
He said extended voting hours for those who have failed to participate in the elections are not expected.
In an interview on ANC's Headstart on Monday morning, Comelec Commissioner Luie Guia said they are expecting a "simpler" elections today since the votes are only for the barangay level.
"Baka mas simple po ngayon at mas mabilis," he said.
But compared to the national elections, Guia believes that there will be more voters today who will complete their ballots.
"For most of the people who are really in the barangays, I think they will vote for all the positions because they are familiar with them," he said.
According to the Comelec, there are a total of 42,028 and 294,196 positions for barangay chairman and kagawad, respectively, in this year's village polls.
