Ona, 74 others unharmed in Quezon plane mishap

MANILA, Philippines - A chartered jet with 68 passengers and seven crew onboard overshot the runway on the island resort of Balesin in Quezon yesterday morning, according to a report on InterAksyon.com.

Among the passengers were Health Secretary Enrique Ona and his wife Norma.

Also on board were RCBC chair Helen Yuchengco-Dee and RCBC president Lorenzo Tan.

The report said based on initial information reaching the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), everyone onboard the BAE 146-200 jet escaped the incident unscathed even if the aircraft sustained some damage. The incident occurred at 11:49 a.m.

Balesin, located east of Mauban, Quezon beside Polillo island, is a 30-minute plane ride from the Manila domestic airport.

The report said the plane was chartered by developer Alphaland Corp., which owns and operates the Balesin Island Club, from Skyjet.

Joanna Duarte, SVP for sales and marketing of Alphaland, said the plane “overshot the runway during landing. No one was injured in the incident.”

She added that flights to and from the island will continue without interruption.

“Your club management will exert the necessary measures to ensure the safety and reliability of our flight operations,” she added.
