Comelec disqualifies Laguna Gov. Ejercito

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Laguna Gov. Emilio Ramon Ejercito has been disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for allegedly overspending in the elections last May.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez announced in his Twitter account that Ejercito was disqualified by the poll body's 1st Division.

Jimenez said that Ejercito spent P6 million for campaign ads alone, which exceeds the Comelec's allowed amount to be spent by a single candidate in the elections.

The Comelec allows candidates to spend P3 for each voters, which amounts to at least P4.5 million. Also on Twitter, Jimenez said Ejercito has five days to file a motion for reconsideration on the 1st Division's decision.
