Improved weather in coming days – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines - Improved weather is expected beginning tomorrow in many parts of Luzon, which were hit by floods last Monday due to heavy rains triggered by the southwest monsoon.

Jori Loiz, weather forecaster at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said no weather disturbance was forecast to affect the country within the next 24 hours.

He said the southwest monsoon, which dumped heavy rains over many parts of Luzon including Metro Manila in the past days, has weakened and Tropical Storm Pabuk continued to move away from the country yesterday.

Pabuk did not enter the Philippine area of responsibility but it enhanced the southwest monsoon, bringing intense rains over most parts of Luzon including Metro Manila last weekend.

Loiz, however, said cloudy skies would continue to prevail over central, southern and northern Luzon today with isolated rains and thunderstorms.

“We can still experience rains, especially during thunderstorms, but it will be less intense,” he added.

PAGASA would continue to monitor a potential low-pressure area over the West Philippine Sea.

Loiz said “if it develops into a low-pressure area near the Philippine landmass, it may bring rains over the western section of Visayas, central Luzon and Metro Manila.”

Meanwhile, the transition to northeast monsoon is expected by late October or early November.

The northeast monsoon brings cool air in the country from November to February.
