Chronology of Zambo standoff

MANILA, Philippines - The following is the chronology of events in the Zamboanga City standoff according to the Philippine National Police (PNP):

Sept 8, 10:30 p.m. – Zamboanga City Police Office personnel arrest two armed suspected Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels in a fishpond in Barangay Rio Hondo, Zamboanga City. The suspects are taken to ZCPO for investigation.

11:30 p.m. – Special Action Force (SAF) personnel are deployed amid the reported presence of 30 armed men in the same barangay.

Sept. 9, 5 a.m. – SAF personnel deployed in Sta. Barbara engage armed men in a firefight.

7 a.m. – Four armed men are arrested in the Zamboanga City public market.

10:30 a.m. – Four mortar rounds are fired by suspected MNLF members in Brgy. Sta. Barbara.

11:02 a.m. – Casualties based on reports of PNP  Region 9 (Western Mindanao): 6 dead (1 PNP; 1 AFP and 4 civilians), 14 wounded (3 PNP; 7 AFP, 4 civilians)

11:41 a.m. – Around 200 civilians are trapped in Sta. Catalina, Zamboanga City.
