ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A man was killed when a needlefish (balo) flipped and pierced his throat shortly after midnight yesterday in this city.

Senior Superintendent Jose Chiquito Malayo, acting city police director, said Guerrero, along with his son and brother, were on a pump boat fishing in the waters off Sitio Gapuh.

The men were checking their hooks when a needlefish leapt out and hit the victim.
