Another NBI exec quits
MANILA, Philippines - A senior official of the National Bureau of Investigation has tendered his courtesy resignation following President Aquino's statement that NBI officials tipped off alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles about her impending arrest.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said Tuesday that Edmundo Arugay, who heads NBI's administrative services office, tendered his "courtesy resignation" effective September 14.
Arugay is currently on official mission abroad and will return on the date, De Lima said.
NBI Director Nonnatus Rojas has submitted his resignation Monday following Aquino's statement. Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said she had recommended to Aquino to reject Rojas' resignation.
De Lima added that NBI deputy directors should be quitting instead of Rojas. NBI is an attached agency under the DOJ.
"Hindi (si Rojas) ang pinapatamaan ni PNoy ... Mas maganda sana na ang mga deputy director ang mag-tender ng resignation, hindi dapat si Director Nonnie," De Lima told reporters Monday.

NBI Deputy Director for Regional Operation Services Virgilio Mendez, meanwhile, has also said that he will file a resignation at the right time if Aquino has lost his confidence in the agency.
De Lima said in reports on Tuesday that three to four deputy directors of the bureau are involved in "illegal activities."
Howver, she refused to name these officials, adding that these are only allegations at the moment.
