MANILA, Philippines - Former Philippine National Police chief Avelino Razon Jr. is not getting any special treatment while detained at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City, an official said on Monday.
Razon, along with high ranking ex-PNP officials Geary Barias and Eliseo dela Paz, are confined in separate cells in two to three rooms inside the detention facility, PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Reuben Sindac said.
Sindac, who personally went to and inspected the cells, said there are no air-conditioning units at the cells of the high-profile detainees.
"No aircon (units) and they are in separate cells with steel bars," Sindac told reporters during media briefing.
He added that Razon is sharing a cell furnished with a double-decked bed with another accused.
Sindac said that electric fans cool the inmates inside the custodial center.
The receiving area for the visitors is air-conditioned.
"Marami silang bisita...thankful sila for visitors are lending moral support," Sindac said.
Meanwhile, the Sandiganbayan, has ordered the PNP to formally take custody of 13 accused in various cases filed before the anti-graft court.
Over the weekend, the Sandiganbayan formally transferred custody of the 13 accused to the PNP.
