Gov't gives 'round the clock security' to Napoles

MANILA, Philippines - The government has given a round-the-clock security on alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles, who is now detained in a room at the Makati City Jail.

A report by state news agency said Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II said the government wants to ensure Napoles' safety while in police custody.

Reports said Napoles is in an airconditioned room in the jail, and is accompanied by police and female jail officers in the room. Inside the room is an old sofa and a desk.

"There will be 24/7 visual security on her, two lady-cops will be assigned to her all the time," Roxas  told the media after Napoles was turned over to the Makati City Jail.

Napoles voluntarily surrendered to President Benigno Aquino III on Wednesday night, following Aquino's announcement of a P10-million reward for her capture when she went hiding to elude arrest in the serious illegal detention case filed against her by Benhur Luy, a relative,  former staff and  one of the pork scam whistleblowers.

Luy said Napoles is the brains behind the P10-billion scam involving the misuse of the Prioirty Development Assistance Fund of lawmakers.
