MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The death toll in the country due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm "Trami", locally named Maring, climbed to 21, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said today.
According to NDRRMC, all the deadly incidents caused by the heavy rain happened in Luzon. Twelve of the victims came from Calabarzon region, eight from Central Luzon, and one from the National Capital Region, the state agency said.
The number of missing persons stood at four, while 30 people were injured, it added.
There were 2.5 million people or 542,000 families affected by the weather disturbance and of them, over 206,000 individuals are still in 769 evacuation centers.
The southwest monsoon rain, which brought massive flooding in most parts of northern Philippines including Metro Manila this week, has damaged agricultural and infrastructure sectors worth more than P633 million (about $14.33 million).
