Bailey bridge to be set up at SCTEx

MALOLOS CITY , Philippines   â€“ The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) will put up a bailey bridge to make the collapsed portion of the Pasig-Potrero Bridge along the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) passable to light vehicles.

The BCDA will construct the bailey bridge with the help of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as a remedial measure.

“DPWH Secretary (Rogelio) Singson and I had discussed the matter, and BCDA and DPWH engineers are working on it,” BCDA president and chief executive officer Arnel Paciano Casanova said yesterday.

Casanova assured the public that the Pasig-Potrero Bridge is “structurally safe and able to withstand strong lahar currents.”

“A bailey bridge is a type of portable, pre-fabricated, truss bridge that does not require special tools or heavy equipment to construct,” he explained.

Casanova reiterated the state-run agency’s commitment to repair the bridge.

“The safety and welfare of our countrymen is our main concern, that is why the BCDA will make sure that the repairs will proceed quickly. The temporary rerouting of vehicles will be done systematically. Getting SCTEx back to 100 percent is a top priority for the BCDA,” he added. – Dino Balabo, Ding Cervantes, Ric Sapnu, Louella Desiderio
