No power disruption reported during bad weather – NGCP

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s power grid remained normal and fully operational despite the onslaught of Tropical Storm Maring and the southwest monsoon, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said yesterday.

In an advisory, the NGCP said there was no disruption reported in its operations.

The grid operator’s transmission lines and sub-stations in North Luzon, South Luzon and National Capital Region had been operational since Aug. 17.

“The NGCP was able to control the entry of floodwater in its substations, particularly in Sucat and Biñan. NGCP’s disaster control program ensured continuous power transmission service to Meralco and other distribution utilities,” the company said.

The NGCP has been undertaking precautions to ensure reliable power transmission services and to minimize the impact of typhoons on its operations and facilities. 

A privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining and developing the country’s power transmission network, NGCP is a joint venture between State Grid Corp. of China and Henry Sy Jr., eldest son of mall magnate Henry Sy. The company acquired a 25-year concession to run the country’s transmission assets after it took over the management of the country’s national transmission network in 2008 from the state-owned National Transmission Co.– Iris Gonzales, Eva Visperas
