'Isang' may affect rivers and water systems in Luzon, Visayas

MANILA, Philippines - Tropical depression "Isang" may affect the rivers and other water systems of 29 provinces in Luzon and Visayas.

In an advisory issued on Wednesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said "Isang" could affect water courses in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas and Eastern Mindanao. 

The tropical depression can affect rivers and its tributaries in Calabarzon particularly Lian, Banabang-Molino, Pansipit, Kapumpong, Rosario-Lobo, Upper Bolbok and Lawaya in Batangas; Laboc (Balsahan), Canas, Ilang-ilang and Imus in Cavite; Sta. Maria, Pagsanjan, Pila-Sta. Cruz, San Juan and San Cristobal in Laguna; Upper Umiray, Lower Bolbok (Lawaya), Malaking Ilog, Iyam, Macalelon, Catanauan, Silongin Lagda, Pagsanjan, Yabahaan, Bigol, Guinhalinan, Vinas, Calauag, Pandanan, Sta. Lucia, Lugan, Malaybalay, Maapon, Bucal, Lakayat, Tignoan, Agos, Anibawan (Polilo Island), Upper Kibay and Catabangan in Quezon; and Upper Marikina and Kaliwa in Rizal.

In Mimaropa region, the rivers and tributaries likely to be affected are Tawiran-Tagum and Boac in Marinduque; Abra de Ilog, Cagaray, Labangan, Magbando, Lunintao, Anahawin, Monpong, Amnay, Pola, Pagbahan, Mamburao and Ibod in Mindoro Occidental; Malaylay-Baco, Pulang Tubig, Mag-asawang Tubig, Butas, Pula, Agsalin, Bansud, Samagui, Bongabon, Baroc, Bulalacao and Balete in Mindoro Oriental; Abongan, Lian, Barabakan, Rizal, Caramay, Langonan, Babuyan, Bacungan, Iwahig Aramayawan, Iwahig, Panitian, Pulot, Lamakan, Kinlugan, Eraan, Tiga-Plan, Malabangan, Ilog, Bansang, Conduaga, Iwahig (Brooks), Okayan, Canipan and Busuanga (Coron) in Palawan. 

The water systems that may be affected in Bicol are Guinale and Upper Donsol in Albay; Labo and Daet Basud in Camarines Norte; Lower Kilbay-Catabangan, Ragay, Tinalmud, Tambang and Lagonoy in Camarines Sur; Lower Donsol, Ogod, Putiao, Cadacan, Banuang-Duan, Fabrica (Tugbugan) and Matnog in Sorsogon; Cabuyan, Bato, and Pajo in Catanduanes; and Lanang, Mapayawan, Mandaong, Asid, Malbag, Guiom, Nainday, Daraga, Nauco (Aguada) and Beleno in Masbate. 

The river and tributaries in Western Visayas that may be affcected by "Isang" are Malogo, Sicaba, Grande, Himocaan, Danao, Upper Tyabanan, Sipalay, Lower Ilog, Hilabangan, Upper Ilog, Binalbagan, Bago and Imbang in Negros Occidental; Pinantan, Barotac, Akalaygan, Jalaud, Jalano, Jagdog, Jalaur, Lamunan, Jaro-Agaman, Sibalom and Guimbal in Iloilo; Sibalom, Ipayo, Cagaranan, Palawan, Cairaunan, Dalanas and Tibiao in Antique; Panay, Mambusao, Panay Malinao, Alingon and Balantian in Capiz; Ibajay, Aklan and Jalo in Aklan. 

In Central Visayas, the water systems to be affected were Libertad, Tanjay, Candugay, Siaton, Cauitan, Sipocong, Bayawan, Pagatban and Lower Tyabanan in Negros Oriental; Kotkot, Mananga, Guinabasan, Balamban and Sapang Dako in Cebu; and Inabanga, Ipil, Matulid, Loboc and Abatan in Bohol.

The water systems to be affected in Eastern Visayas were Bisay, Himbangan and Pandan in Southern Leyte; Sangputan, Palo, Salano (Quilot), Daguitan-Marabang, Cadacan, Bongquirogan, Salug, Pagbangaran and Binahaan in Leyte; Oras, Dolores, Ulot, Taft, Borongan, Suribao, Llorento, Balangiga and Sulat in Eastern Samar; Catarman, Bungko, Pambukhan, Catubig, Palapag, Mano and Gamay in Northern Samar; and Basey, Silaga, Calbiga and Jibatan in Samar.

The NDRRMC has ordered its field units to come up with contingency measures. 

“People living near the mountain slopes and in the low-lying areas of the above-mentioned river systems and the local disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned are advised to be on alert," NDRRMC said in a memorandum.
