MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay will ask the family of the Filipina executed in China for drug trafficking to coordinate with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for the immediate arrest of her recruiter.
The NBI has reportedly been having difficulty finding the recruiter since they have yet to receive information from the woman’s family.
The presidential adviser on overseas Filipino workers’ concerns said the family – a fish retailer – has requested confidentiality regarding their identities.
“Let us understand them,†he said. “They are very careful and they want to preserve their privacy. They do not want to be talked about.â€
Binay said the family requested that details of the execution of their kin not be disclosed.
“The request to cremate her came from them,†he said. “Normally, the remains of our fellow Filipinos who die abroad are brought home. But in this case, they requested for cremation.
“So, it would be returned home without any talk. I will tell them to cooperate.â€
Binay said the family of the Filipina also wants to keep its distance from the media.
“The family is very simple,†he said. “They are selling fish. They are very careful even with their neighbors.â€
