5 injured in grenade attack on bus in Zamboanga
ZAMBOANGA, Philippines (Xinhua) - At least five people were injured when a grenade exploded inside a service bus this morning in Zamboanga city, a local security official said.
The attack occurred about 7 a.m. at a mini-bus of the state-run Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) along the Ma. Clara Lobregat highway, Zamboanga City Police Director Edwin de Ocampo said.
De Ocampo said the bus was on its way to the fishing port at the Sangali village when an unidentified suspect on board a motorcycle tailing the service vehicle lobbed a fragmentation grenade that exploded inside the bus.
"The bus was picking up its passengers, who were workers of the fishing port, when the suspect staged the grenade attack," de Ocampo said.
When the unharmed passengers assisted the wounded victims out of the bus, the suspect quickly escaped, De Ocampo added.
Investigation into the motive of the incident and whereabouts of the suspect is underway.
